In 1966 she became a prize-winner at the Third International Tchaikovsky Competition, and in 1967 in Tokyo she got the first prize and won the title ‘Best Cio-Cio-San in the World’ at the First International Competition in Memory of Miura Tomaki. The annual festival “Maria Biesu Invites” is held in Chisinau under the auspices of this well-known Moldovan soprano-singer and has a history of more than 10 years.

DAY 1

You’ll meet your local guide and driver at the airport. Check-in. After check-in you’ll have a tour about the capital of Moldova – Chisinau city. It includes: visit to the Museum of Natural History and Ethnography, the Central Park and the Alley of Moldovan literature classics, the monument of Steven the Great and Saint, Great National Assembly Square, the Triumph Arch, the “Nativity” Cathedral, the Organ Hall, the Market of souvenirs and Opera House. Lunch/dinner in the local restaurant specialized in traditional Moldovan cuisine (optional). In the evening you’ll participate in the great opening of the International Opera Festival “Maria Biesu Invites”.

 

DAY 2

Day trip to TIRASPOL (capital of Transnistria) - where the old USSR is still alive. Here you’ll see the symbols of Soviet times – hammer, sickle and red star reflected on the coat of arms of Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic, etc. City tour includes: Supreme Soviet (Parliament), V. Lenin monument, Square of Soviet Constitution, walk down the main avenue, World War II & Afghanistan War Memorial and the Opera theatre of course.


Optional: visit of Milestii Mici, registered in the Guinness Book of Records for being the biggest Wine Collection in the world. Wine tasting and snacks (optional). In the evening - the 2nd day of the International Opera Festival “Maria Biesu Invites”.

 

DAY 3

Today you’ll visit one of the most visited sites of Moldova - Orheiul Vechi (Cave Monastery Complex), located in 55 km from Chisinau. This Cave Monastery is "arguably Moldova's most fantastic sight". Here you’ll see an Orthodox cave monastery called “St. Maria Dormata” expanded and modified inside the cliffs by the monks over the centuries ago and preserved in a functional state nowadays. After excursion about this fascinating complex and you’ll have lunch with folk program in the Moldovan family pension located in the neighborhood village. After Orheiul Vechi complex you’ll visit a monastery Curchi, the real pearl of our religious life. Here you’ll visit some churches, and among them - the “Virgin’s Assumption” Cathedral, built by the drawings of genius architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli.


Optional: You may also visit Cricova winery, which is a real underground wine city with wide streets, warehouses, tasting rooms. The total length of its galleries is 120 km. The constant annual temperature of + 12ºC and 82–95 % humidity are perfect conditions for aging quality wine there. Cricova is well known for brilliant sparkling-wines produced by the classic French method.. Return to Chisinau. In the evening - the 3rd day of the International Opera Festival “Maria Biesu Invites”.


DAY 4

Check-out. Transfer to the airport.
